CATARACT
Cataract is the term used to describe a clouding or fogging of the natural lens of your eye. When the lens becomes cloudy, the light reaching the retina is blurred and distorted, the clarity your vision is affectedand you experience blurry vision, reduced contrast and color perception, and glare or halos from lights at night. This clouded lens is called a cataract. And cataract must be removed before vision can be restored to normal, clear vision. Cataracts are almost inevitable, but they are not cancerous. They can be treated with a surgical procedure called Phacoemulsification, that is one of the most common operations performed by eye surgeons. It is also considered to be one of the safest and most effective of all surgical procedures. The decision to do cataract surgery is usually made when a person has a functional limitation due to the cataract. Most commonly the cataract procedure is done under topical anaesthesia (with drops) through an incision that is approximately 2 mm in width and does not require any stitches.Complete recovery after cataract surgery takes two to three weeks, but most patients return to work after a week of undergoing cataract surgery.
WHAT KIND OF VISION CAN I EXPECT AFTER CATARACT SURGERY ?
That depends on what kind of Intraocular Lens (IOL) is being implanted. With most MONOFOCAL IOLs, patients see well without glasses for distance, but require glasses for reading and doing near distance activities. Patients undergoing MULTIFOCAL IOL implantation can see well for both distance and near without glasses. Advanced Multifocal IOLs such as TRIFOCAL IOLs or EXTENDED DEPTH OF FOCUS (EDOF) IOLs, give a good range of vision including computer distance vision.
We at PATEL EYE CARE specialize in all Premium Monofocal & Advanced Multifocal IOL implants.
